About Buckfastleigh Community News

Buckfastleigh Community News publishes news items from local organisations year-round on this website, and additionally prints and distributes a news sheet ten times a year to every household across Buckfastleigh, Buckfast, Holne, and Scoriton. It is managed by the Wigram Community Association, a local volunteer group that began in the 1980s as a community drop-in at St Luke’s Church. The association is named in memory of the late Dr Wigram, a much-loved community doctor from Buckfastleigh. Over time, the organisation’s focus has evolved to exclusively running the Community News website and producing the printed news sheet.

This new website marks a significant step forward by hosting regularly updated news articles from a broad range of local contributors and organisations. Articles appear live on the site as soon as they are received and approved, providing an up-to-date and vibrant window into community life throughout Buckfastleigh and neighbouring areas.

Alongside the website, we continue to produce and distribute a printed summary news sheet ten times a year, free to all residents via volunteer delivery. The printed edition contains concise versions of the submitted articles and generally omits photos to manage printing costs.

We encourage contributors to use the online submission form as the preferred way to send news and updates. This form allows you to include a personal message directly to the editor, Chris Doidge, maintaining the human touch without the need to send an email. While email submissions will be accepted temporarily, using the form ensures your contribution is added promptly and correctly to the website database.

About the Wigram Community Association

The Wigram Community Association was formed in the 1980s as a drop-in centre based at the back of St Luke’s Church in Buckfastleigh. It was named in memory of the late Dr Wigram, a popular local doctor. Initially, the association served as a friendly meeting place on Thursdays but gradually shifted focus to running the Community News sheet.

Today, the association concentrates solely on producing the news sheet and managing this website, providing an important community service entirely run by volunteers.

Contributions and Contact

We welcome contributions from local groups, organisations, and individuals. The best way to submit articles, announcements, or photos is via the online submission form on this website, which ensures your submission is formatted correctly and entered directly into the system.

If you want to add a personal note to the editor, Chris Doidge, there is an option within the form to include a message. Email submissions will be accepted temporarily but are not preferred long-term.

For other enquiries or feedback, please use the contact form. This ensures messages are received promptly by the editorial team without publishing personal email addresses publicly.

Funding and Support

The Buckfastleigh Community News is funded entirely through donations and grants. We do not carry advertising, choosing instead to rely on support from local sponsors and generous members of the public.

The primary expense remains the printing and distribution of the physical news sheet, which volunteers deliver to every household in the area.
